“Comfy Cushions” reference an article and response in my local (childhood home) hometown newspaper addressing the communities first Pride Parade ever in June of 2021. The newspaper covered the parade and immediately received hate calls and emails condemning the parade and the coverage. As a queer person who grew up in this town, I needed to comment on this response and reflect it back to the community to challenge perceptions of comfort and belonging. The cushions are designed after a cushion that is very popular among wealthy residents at Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua, PA there I observed ignorance of diverse perspectives.
