I am captivated by the power of the virtual realm to explore the boundaries of identity and authenticity to connect and build communities that may have otherwise been isolated by limitations of the physical landscape. Back in 2010, THECOLORG began as a mere screen name for me, but it has since come to represent more than just a moniker; it embodies the authentic and unapologetic version of myself that is not bound by societal norms or expectations. This fusion of physical and online identities represents the queer me, the genuine me that is not hindered or restrained. The emo bears in this exhibition carry within them hidden codes that connect to a vast web of information, resources, stories, memories, thoughts, and dreams. Each bear becomes a tangible symbol of empowerment and self-expression, showcasing their true colors with pride. These creations serve as a catalyst for meaningful discussions about the impact of our increasingly digital lives on our authentic selves. Bearcode aims to explore the profound connection between our virtual personas and our physical selves. Through engaging viewers in dialogue and encouraging them to reflect upon their own experiences navigating the virtual realm, I strive to foster a sense of belonging and community within an often fragmented and isolating landscape. Through dialogue and shared experiences, we can better understand how our online personas shape our offline realities. Scan the QR codes embedded in the bears on view, and join me on this transformative journey as we navigate the complexities of living in The Digital Age.
